New Products **DentAcetic coming Soon* *Wet Wipes in Clinic Size**

DentAcetic(tm) Natural Toothgel with Sodium hexametaphosphate. You may ask, "Why vinegar in a dental product? " For starters, it has a broad range of antimicrobial activity, is an excellent degreaser and non-toxic-especially as compared to chlorhexidine which also has been reported to cause teeth staining.. The Sodium hexametaphosphate is to prevent calculi formation. As a side note, this product has been under development and testing for over 2 years with veterinary dentists.

The MalAcetic Wet Wipes are NOW available as Laser Wipes (conceived of by DANIEL FIELDS of ESC/ Sharplan aka Luxar). They are also in a CLINIC SIZE which will be 33% stronger and 25% larger at 6 by 7 inches in 100 towelette containers. We are taking orders for the Clinic Size MalAcetic Wet Wipes NOW. The Special Introductory price is $13.99 /bottle in boxes of 6. **BUY 5 and get the 6th FREE**

PRACTICE TIP

CLARIFICATION Malassezia Otitis and Bacterial Otitis PROTOCOLS

While it is true that the acetic/boric acid products have efficacy against Pseudomonas, they are actually a FIRST LINE topical treatment while the TrizEDTA (Step 6) remains the best protocol for treatment after the acetic/boric acid is used using Step 3b or Step 4 (See the Seven Steps to Treating Ears under Protocols at http://www.dermapet.com). BOTH OF THESE PRODUCTS CAN BE USED IF THERE IS A RUPTURED TYMPANUM.

For prevention of Pseudomonas, one could use a variety of protocols. My favorite is a mixture of TrizEDTA on days 1 and 4 and the Ear/Skin (acetic/boric acids) on days 3 and 6. This also gives you prevention AND maintenance therapy against Malassezia.

Malassezia protocols use Steps 1 through 4 which use the acetic/boric acid product. For prevention of SWIMMER'S EAR and most Malassezia cases, it is best to clean the ear once or twice weekly with the acetic/boric acid cleanser.

The addition of BORIC acid to the acetic acid is what adds cidal ability to the normal static killing ability of acetic acid. This is proven in-vitro in Benson's article and in-vivo in Gotthelf's article. (See ARTICLES at the web site).

At the Muller Derm meeting in Kauai. DOUG DEBOER, WAYNE ROSENKRANTZ, PETER IHRKE, STEPHEN WHITE and THELMA LEE GROSS made up this year's all star dermoid cast. Meeting regs, RICHARD and KECIA SMILIE (Woodburn, OR) were seen living up to their name. DOUG COWARD was contemplating surfing the giant waves. MOORE BACHARACH (Mountainview, WA) won the golf tournament. The Japanese contingent, although small in number was high in quality with my old friend MINUTSUGU OGATA (Azabu University) , KOICHII FUJII (Kanagawa) and YOCHIRO ICHIKAWA (Chiba). Dr. Ogata has been a friend of my family since doing his residency with my deceased cousin, Greg Kedan, at AMC in the 70's. I was pleasantly surprised to see ROBERT KOVOL (a leading DermaPet sales rep for NLS in Ohio) with his wife, LISA BALTES who practices in Norwalk. STAN ACREE (OK), the BENDIXENS (WI), BLINKSIDES (MI), the BLEDSOES and MARY CLAYTOR (AL) were a few of the other non-CA residents. DICK MCCARTHY (Lowell, MA), KAY LINDSAY! (IL) and DOUG COWARD (San Clemente) were quick to greet us upon arrival. It was GARY ROBERTS (Palm Springs) turn this year; we'll see his partner, my high school classmate, DOUG KUNZ, next year in Maui. BTW, the first day next year is the legendary Halloween festival where it is reputed that the lesser "costume" one wears the better. Thank you DOUG DEBOER for sending people our way with your TrizEDTA discussion as part of a Pseudomonas Otitis talk.

Hawaii VMA . ERIC AKO did it again; running the HVMA meeting with his energy and style. There was a large Taiwan contingent this year to go with the Japanese AND Hawaiians. BRIAN BEALE (Gulf Coast, Houston) lectured at the HVMA. KAREN MUTH BEALE visited the Muller Derm meeting in Kauai, flew home to Houston and FLEW BACK to Honolulu 3 days later to be with Brian and keep up her elite frequent flyer status. ROBERT HOWELL of R. WEINSTEIN distributors (Hawaii) who clearly won closest to the hole actually got the prize later.

Scottsdale was the site of the MWI meeting where HENRY RANDAZZO (Palm Desert, CA), DermaPet's golfing Ambassador and consultant, showed up 5 holes late for the golf tournament.- something about PCT and Mountain time; that was the good news. His team was even when he got there; he proceeded to win the longest drive, closest to the pin and his team ended up 3rd at 7 under. If he got there on time-and won everything, we might have been asked to leave before the show even started. We continued our acquaintance with top reps such as RICHARD DUBOIS (NM) KERRY KIRTLEY (Riverside Cty, CA, formerly from Hawaii), MARCELLINO RIOS (S. Texas, whose antics arose the "ire" amongst a few of the female reps), RICK KOSTER (Orange County) JUDY BOGARD (Houston) and JOE KING (Texas Sales Manager). While vets can still buy direct, we at DermaPet would sure appreciate any time spent educating reps-even though it often appears the other way around!

CHUCK MICHAELS, our "renaissance man" also visited the North Carolina meeting. For those who don't know Chuck, he is the kind hearted, smiling man who markets DermaPet at trade shows and on-the-road. Chuck also visited a RALPH LEE Williamsburg Seminar where LOU GOTTHELF'S ear lecture was forced to stop to add more chairs for the standing-room-only crowd.

There will be no meetings in the month of December. Orlando (booth 714) at the TNAVC where we are sponsoring the Ear DLE is next. Philadelphia, SCAVMA auction

The SCAVMA auction was chaired by DermaPet's own Jessica Melman (UP '03) with co-chair KATE JOHNSON ('03). JESSICA CHAFKIN ('03) did an outstanding Vanna White. Gifts seemed to be larger and more plentiful this year although the bidding was less, possibly due to the economy. ALAN GERSON (Pittsburgh, PVMA President) bought the ear thermometer donated by Dan Scott. I bought a Welsh Allen binocular microscope and a Wyeth-a relative of Andrew- lithograph called "The Veterinarian". MARK HASKINS (Penn) was the MC for the 25th straight year. Someone in the Path department bought a week at a vacation home in the Cayman Islands much to the glee of the entire dept led by MIKE GOLDSCHMIDT. MARK GUISE (Harrisburg, PVMA Pres-elect) sat next to Dean ALAN KELLY.

ALAN GARETT'S (Corpus Christi) fan club has developed his very own web page http://www.ihatealangarett.com. Alan will be at the DermaPet booth for the TVMA (Houston), AAHA (San Antonio) and Las Vegas (Western States) this year.

MedRx is offering CE doing their EAR Seminars on the road in New York, December 10. Be there to hear LOU GOTTHELF teach you the latest, state of the art otology. Ears represent the #1 complaint of pet owners to vets (VPI insurance claims, 2000). Call Kenny Keith at 888-392-1234 to register or find out when one is coming near you.

The MalAcetic Wet Wipes (containing 2% acetic and 2% boric acids) have emerged as our most rapidly growing product. It has been brought to our attention that DermaPet will be recognized as a pioneer in this class of products by other companies who will also be making wet wipes. Imitation is the sincerest from of flattery. One "southern" vet dermatologist has said it keeps her Cocker "clean". ROD ROSYCHUCK gave them a favorable mention in his talk to the Japanese at the WCVD4 and in Reno.
