Ear/Skin Cleanser New Packaging

To protect veterinarians, we have made our website password protected for pricing information.  Please use the following:
user name is dermapet
password is cust1.

We wish you a Happy and Healthy Holiday. May 2002 be a prosperous and peaceful year.

NEW PACKAGING. The Ear/Skin Cleanser (2% acetic and 2% boric acids) is now available in new packaging. For uniformity, we will change the name of the Ear/Skin Cleanser to MalAcetic Otic in the near future. MalAcetic is a registered trademark of DermaPet that signifies the product contains 2% acetic and 2% boric acids, is patented and from DermaPet. The MalAcetic line now consists of the Ear/Skin Cleaner, MalAcetic Wet Wipes, MalAcetic Shampoo and MalAcetic Conditioner.

Please go to the Newsletter archive at the web site to view previous newsletters including MICs for DUMMIES. Also, please look at http://www.dermapet.com to see our many updates, Protocols including Malassezia Dermatitis, the popular TrizEDTA Bacterial Otitis Protocol, the Pruritic Clinical Trial, and articles. THE NEW BROCHURE IS ON LINE.

Please go to http://www.dermapet.com or call 800-755-4738 for DIRECT sales. We also sell via select distributors such as Burns , Columbus Serum, NLS, MWI, Penn Vet, PVP, Merritt, Premier, R & S Pharma, R. Weinstein (Hawaii), TW Vet Supply, Vet Med Supply and Vetpo. In the last month we have added Henry Schein and Midwest Vet Supply. We can now provide you a dominant distributor anywhere you may be in the USA (including Alaska and Hawaii). We are also available in Canada via CENTRAL SALES (central@ica.net), Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Central America and soon in Europe.

The SHELF LIFE of the TrizEDTA has been questioned since we originally had a 21 day expiration date on the label. We are RECOMMENDING SIX MONTHS after reconstitution despite data from Wooley indicating stability of at least 3 years. It also does not need to be refrigerated after reconstituting. The point is that the TrizEDTA is very stable, especially in the crystalline state.

EUROPEAN VETS (and others worldwide): We are shipping TrizEDTA for $11.99 (per 4 ounce/cases of 12) INCLUDING SHIPPING BY FEDEX.

We will be in Taipei, Taiwan from 12/5 to 12/12 where I will be doing seminars on Seven Steps to Ear Therapy and Shampoo Therapy. On 11/30 and 12/1, we attend the Williamsburg meeting sponsored by Ralph and Martha Lee. We will be at the NAVC in Orlando on January 12-16 where, amongst many seminars, we hope to hear Lou Gotthelf talk on ears. The 1/30, we will attend the PENN meeting in Philadelphia.

SALES REPS HIRED

DermaPet is proud to announce the hiring of MEREDITH MILLER in the Southeast and SUSAN ACKERSON on the West Coast. In future issues, we will tell you a little about them. MedRx is offering CE doing their EAR Seminars on the road next NEW YORK CITY on December 2 and ORLANDO on December 9. Be there to hear LOU GOTTHELF teach you the latest, state of the art otology. Ears represent the #1 complaint of pet owners to vets (VPI insurance claims, 2000). Call 888-392-1234 to register or find out when one is coming near you.

GEMISH Information

Many people have said they cannot get Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate (DSP) and want to know what to substitute. As long as the corticosteroid is of a similar strength and water soluble, it should be OK. However, one should not need to shake it, as is often the case with many injectable corticosteroids. Although I have a supply of DSP, one substitute others are using is Azium (Schering). The antibiotic selection may vary, as well, and may be omitted entirely when treating uncomplicated Malassezia otitis externa cases.

MalAcetic Otic (aka Ear/Skin Cleanser) For Cats, Too

The following letter was recently received from an MD who was pleased about the response of his cat.

Anyone who owns a Cornish Rex knows that their ears secrete an EXCESSIVE amount of cerumen, requiring flushing/cleaning 4-5 times weekly. (And no, this is not ear mites, etc.- it is simply a characteristic of the breed.) I recently flushed my cat's ears with the DermaPet Ear/Skin Cleanser and found it to be far superior to other products on the market at those large pet supply chains. His ears have never been cleaner! And I really appreciated the greaseless, non-sticky formula. Likewise, it is comforting to know that this product is non-toxic to my pet's ears, as I will be using it on a regular basis. Every Cornish Rex owner should know about this great product.

Dental Meeting/San Antonio

My first Dental meeting found the Academy, College and Society of Dentistry a friendly and organized group. Not quite as large as our derm group, they had organized events almost every moment. Exhibitors were most pleased with the commencement cocktail party and lunches served in the exhibit area.

Lots of interest in our products and especially the DentAcetic Wipes

Awards went to KRISTA MENDOZA, PETER EMILY Award as the Outstanding Candidate for Boards; STEVE HOLMSTROM, the Dental College Service Award; BOB WIGGS, the Hugh Friedy Golden Scale Award (given by CAROL WELDON); ED EISNER, AVDS award; FRANK VERSTRADE received a $6,000 grant and BOB WIGGS was the Academy Fellow of the Year.

After flying there with CHUCK WILLIAMS (VA) and his companion Anne-Marie, I shared a taxi with MARK LUTSCHAUNIG(Friskies) and LISA BRUNDLE from the airport. You will recall that Gloria refused to take a taxi in Boston during the TUFTS meeting since a taxi driver there was an alleged conspirator. THIS taxi driver had a clipboard with a letter in which the top read "From the Taliban Public Relations Agency." Never one to mince words or dodge an international incident, with Mark and Lisa nudging me not to, I asked if the driver could read the Arabic underneath. It was too late to get out.

Poor PETER EMILY had his flight from Germany messed up only arriving late on Day 2. I was pleased to meet with DON ROSS and my good friend, MIKE MARK who work together in HOUSTON. I renewed a friendly airplane encounter of year ago with RANDY BRANNAN (Portland) at Polyesters where my professor, COLIN HARVEY, was also seen. CAROL WELDON gave one award. KEN LYON (PHOENIX) who worked with LOWELL ACKERMAN was there. Of course, JACK WHITE and GARY BOUGE were there as well. After getting there on Thursday afternoon, I returned at 6 AM on Saturday.

Maui, The George Muller UC/Davis Dermatology Meetings

Dean DON KLINGBORG and PETER IHRKE hosted this meeting which came as a welcome reprieve from what has been going on in the world. AMY MOATS of MEDRX shared our booth. My golf partners were, oddly enough, two New Yorkers, MARK GIBSON of Brooklyn and DAVE HANCOCK of Rochester. Mark shared an interesting story about how one customer called him and thanked him for saving his life by being late on 9/11. Dave, it turns out works in a 12 practice group one of which has MICHELE ROSENBAUM as a dermatologist.

Another Rochester vet, JIM TOMPSETT with Sally, DAVE HANCOCK with Ann joined Gloria and I at a Luau where MIKE JOHNSON's (Lawrence, MA) wife Ann was invited up to do the Hula and entertained us with a version of a native Russian dance.

KEN KWOCHKA (OSU) and his wife Theresa enjoyed tasting some of the wine DermaPet brings to meetings. We shared stories about the interesting costumes we observed in LaHaina during the annual Halloween parade.
