Please go to the Newsletter archive at the web site to view previous newsletters including MICs for DUMMIES. Also, please look at http://www.dermapet.com to see our many updates, Protocols including Malassezia Dermatitis, the popular TrizEDTA Bacterial Otitis Protocol, the Pruritic Clinical Trial, and articles. THE NEW BROCHURE IS ON LINE.

Please go to http://www.dermapet.com or call 800-755-4738 for DIRECT sales. We also sell via select distributors such as Burns , Columbus Serum, NLS, MWI, Penn Vet, PVP, Merritt, Premier, R & S Pharma, R. Weinstein (Hawaii), TW Vet Supply, Vet Med Supply and Vetpo. In the last month we have added Henry Schein and Midwest Vet Supply. We can now provide you a dominant distributor anywhere you may be in the USA (including Alaska and Hawaii). We are also available in Canada via CENTRAL SALES (central@ica.net), Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Central America and soon in Europe. We welcome Nicolas Carrillo Correa, Inc (NCC) of PUERTO RICO as our newest distributor. Please go to our web site and see all our distributors listed.

The SHELF LIFE of the TrizEDTA has been questioned since we originally had a 21 day expiration date on the label. We are RECOMMENDING SIX MONTHS after reconstitution despite data from Wooley indicating stability of at least 3 years. It also does not need to be refrigerated after reconstituting. The point is that the TrizEDTA is very stable, especially in the crystalline state.

EUROPEAN VETS (and others worldwide): We are shipping TrizEDTA for $11.99 (per 4 ounce/cases of 12) INCLUDING SHIPPING BY FEDEX.

JACK and GARY will do the TVMA (Booth 817) in Ft. Worth 7-10. Many of us, including the notorious ALAN GARETT, will be at the WESTERN STATES in LAS VEGAS (Booth 412) at the MGM on FEBRUARY 12-14. Come hear PETER EMILY and an all-star list of experts lecture. After Vegas, trade show addicts that we are, we will attend the OHIO VMA meeting in Columbus 2/21-24.

SALES REPS HIRED

DermaPet is proud to announce the hiring of MEREDITH MILLER in the Southeast and SUSAN ACKERSON on the West Coast. In future issues, we will tell you a little about them. JACK WHITE is still serving Texas and GARY BOUGE has now completed his move to Tucson. PLEASE warmly welcome them in your practices as you would me. Remember, they (we) are here to serve your needs.

MedRx is offering CE doing their EAR Seminars on the road next in RICHMOND on MARCH 3, LOS ANGELES on March 17 and PHILADELPHIA on April 7. Be there to hear LOU GOTTHELF teach you the latest, state of the art otology. Ears represent the #1 complaint of pet owners to vets (VPI insurance claims, 2000). Call 888-392-1234 to register or find out when one is coming near you.

GEMISH Information

Many people have said they cannot get Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate (DSP) and want to know what to substitute. As long as the corticosteroid is of a similar strength and water soluble, it should be OK. However, one should not need to shake it, as is often the case with many injectable corticosteroids. Although I have a supply of DSP, one substitute others are using is Azium (Schering). The antibiotic selection may vary, as well, and may be omitted entirely when treating uncomplicated Malassezia otitis externa cases.

YADA, YADA, YADA

Orlando, TNAVC

Those who have either followed or been a part of the derm world the last 20 years, know JACK WHITE. For close to one year, Jack has been representing us in the Texas region and in various roles nationally while working with other companies. Jack worked the DermaPet booth in Orlando and will again in Vegas while we look for a way to find a permanent way to bring him in the DermaPet family. Staffing our booth were DermaPet reps SUSAN ACKERSON (West coast), MEREDITH MILLER (Southeast) and STACEY MELMAN (Rover) while GARY BOUGE and JACK WHITE handled the distributor meetings.

This meeting was more widely attended then the staff of The North American Veterinary Conference hoped. Nonetheless, due to excellent planning led by COLIN BURROWS and DONNA GINDY, this meeting went without a hitch. Speaking of Peggy, her daughter, KARRE, who has been observed often as a hard working TNAVC employee, will be marrying golf pro BASIL WETHERINGTON III at the Paris Hotel on Valentine's Day in Las Vegas after the Western States Meeting. Good luck, Basil and Karre!

About 1500 people attended LOU GOTTHELF's ear lectures. CAROL FOIL (LSU, VIN derm monitor), PETER IHRKE, ROD ROSYCHUK, KARIN BEALE and WAYNE ROSENKRANTZ rounded out an excellent derm program. Thankfully, DermaPet products were kindly included where appropriate by all.

JEAN HAWKINS and RANDI BRANNAN were 2 noted dentists on the program. BARRON HALL, dental resident extraordinaire, was also seen in the MedRx suite with one of their top sales reps, AMY MOATS.

The transition in 2003 to a new hotel next year went extremely well. DermaPet will expand to two booths in an entire row at the main entry shared with compatible dog food company, IVD. Sadly, we could not be near our perennial neighbors, VLS. Speaking of VLS, MARTY CARON, the new person in charge, led a wonderful golf outing where they gave us all a sleeve of Titleist Pro VI's which were observed to not float any better than my other less expensive errantly hit golf balls MIKE SOLLARS, publisher of Veterinary Forum, was in my foursome; when it comes to golf, Mike runs a great magazine. Rounding out our foursome was RALPH BARRETT (NPC, Sacramento) and ROB PARKER (AMC/NYC); as a good surgeon would, Rob had a propensity to slice. The winning team was BOB ANTIN (VCA King), STEVE FISHER (VCA) and JOHN PAYNE (Bayer CEO). The DVM NewsMagazine annual pre-meeting golf tournament led by RAY LENDER, TODD BLOOM and HEATHER FOX was also quite enjoyable.

Bayer sponsored the Hughie Lewis and The News concert. We sat with LOU GOTTHELF, LOWELL ACKERMAN and RALPH LEE and behind HUGH LEWIS who saw humor and took pleasure in seeing his namesake. The show was opened by DON HARRIS's touching slide show rendition of Bob Marley's Redemption. Bob played well the new guitar he bought with the proceeds of his late mother's estate.

BARRY PEARL, GARY LANDSBERG'S Canadian hotel roommate, and I played a little pool with WAYNE HUNTHAUSEN (a real pool hustler!). Barry had an uninsured health emergency (illustrating why Canadians should BUY a health option while traveling in the US) and was literally saved by Landsberg who dragged his feverish body to an emergency room.

Other behaviorist friends who visited included DEB HOROWITZ, R. K. ANDERSON and KRISTI SEKSEL (Australia).

It was good to see DermaPet student reps in attendance; they were STACEY MEYERS from the University of Missouri, CARRIE DARNABY (Auburn) and JESSICA MELMAN (PENN).

From outside North America, TERESITA CARRILLO MATTA (Nicolas Carrillo Correa, Inc-NCC), VICTOR MALCA (PERU), ILAN SKORINSKY (ISRAEL) and several Israeli colleagues, ALBERTO COHEN (BRAZIL), FERNANDO VASQUEZ (MEXICO), TESSY MATSUBARA (JAPAN) and other colleagues from ESTONIA, FRANCE, SPAIN, UK, HOLLAND, GERMANY, AUSTRALIA and other parts of the world, visited us.

Philadelphia, the PENN Meetings

If we could fit in one more meeting it would need to be the Penn meeting where JESSICA Melman is a VERY well paid student rep. Jessica, ALLISON ABRAMSON and JESSICA CHAFKIN entertained me one evening where they promise to work on a DentAcetic that tastes better to cats. Their behavior prof, ILANA REISNER stopped by and used a cat toy during her lecture (shades of GARY LANDSBERG and DEB HOROWITZ). It's good to have you at PENN, Ilana!

Most enjoyable is visiting with classmates and colleagues who also suffered through PENN around the time when I was there. The following came by and said hello (readers be advised these people are much older than the author); WILLIE McCORMICK (who tells me his wife LYDIA DONALDSON needs a raise as the equine anesthesiologist at VA Tech), DOTTIE MILLER, ED MOLESWORTH (who was also seen in Hawaii-get a job Moles!), JAY LEEB, DON MARCUS (who was also at Texas A&M when I was there), RICHARD WEITZMAN (my neighbor in Potomac), JOHN POTE, BOB CUSANNO and IRA SILVER. Also not seen but, I am told were present, were
VERN DRURIE, BUD STOLZ and BOB MUNSON. PVMA President, JAMES RUNNELL promised me the PVMA annual meeting would concentrate on having vets visit the exhibitors.
