TrizEDTA is Aqueous Part 2
Yada, Yada, Yada
TrizEDTA is Aqueous
Aqueous TrizEDTA, is a ready to use, USP only, preservative-free, stable liquid form of our "crystal" TrizEDTA with a Buy 9, Get 3 Introductory sale at $4.99/4 ounce and $9.99/16 ounce. The stable, crystalline form can be shipped inexpensively any where in the world.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Rumor has it that an attempt has been made to copy our TrizEDTA. The merits of our USP pure version speak for themselves.
TrizEDTA uses USP only ingredients and is aqueous; it contains no alcohol, a substance that is considered ototoxic in cases where there is a ruptured tympanum. It is not suggested you use alcohol with our Crystal TrizEDTA since it can 'taint' it. There is no research indicating it is effective with alcohol; all research published over the last 20 years was based on the aqueous form. It is preservative free, with a stable and long three-year expiration date. The pH is 8.0 (7.5 to 8.0 is ideal for efficacy). It only contains de-ionized, demineralized water, which is key since minerals from water will deactivate the efficacy of TrizEDTA; one mechanism of action is to chelate minerals in the cell wall of bacteria. This product is safe to use in cases with ruptured tympanum, which is most often the case with Pseudomonas Otitis (the #1 indication) since it "secretes" enzymes, which virtually eat away tissue.
TrizEDTA, the only USP-pure tris-edta product, is a registered trademark owned by DermaPet and is Patent Pending.
The Road
We added three new Territory Managers (TM) to handle the West Coast, NorthEast and Florida. LISA LORENZINI will handle the West Coast market, MICHELLE BEZJAK in the NorthEast and KIM KENNINGTON in Florida will round out our team. We assemble in Myrtle Beach at the SEVC for a training session/thinktank on 6/12.
Dermatogossip
This column was nicknamed "Dermato-gossip" by a prominent and influential veterinary dermatologist who this column has nicknamed "the Dick Clark of the derm world."
ACVIM
JACK WHITE worked this meeting solo. We were told that our booth seemed to be
one of the busiest. ROD ROSYCHUK, CANDACE SOUSA and LENNY JONAS were but a few
of the derm crowd that stopped by. KEN KWOCHKA left the ACVIM meeting on his
way to his new location with JOHN PLANTE in LA.

They really did make LEE IZEN the President of the Georgia VMA but, presumably,
only on the condition that the induction ceremony was out of state. (Correction:
last month, when discussing Izen's appointment to President of the GVMA, we
misspelled the word inducted as indicted; this must have been a Freudian slip.)
Lee, with his son Keith, actually received this award in a room full of the
only tie-wearing tourists in the entire hotel, if not resort town. The friendly
face of RICHARD WOOLEY (TrizEDTA=Wooley's Solution) greeted my arrival. DOYLE
WATSON, the practice agent, and I ducked out before the serious part of the
banquet. We are proud and pleased to announce our UGA student rep, SHANNON MILLER,
received the Bayer Dermatology award from the derm department. LINDA MEDLEAU
now knows I know how to keep a secret. ANDREW HILLIER presented derm and ears.
I kept running into past prez JERRY CASE (Savannah). RICHARD DIXON (Rome, GA)
likes the convenience of the newsletter, which he can read and save when and
what he wants, and delete the rest. MEREDITH MILLER and I worked the booth.
SEVC, Myrtle Beach, SC
This meeting is quietly getting to be known as the "best little show in
the vet business". Unlike almost every other meeting, virtually all attendees
are practitioners, and they come to learn and buy. RALPH, MARTHA and HOWIE LEE
run a top-notch show with RON WHITFORD, program chair, who invites top international
speakers. ROD ROSYCHUK and LOU GOTTHELF will do derm and ears while yours truly
will do a section on ears and shampoo therapy for the techs. PETER EMILY will
celebrate a MAJOR birthday. Since I like him, and can't believe it, his true
age will not be disclosed. But, rumor has it that Peter once consulted on a
dinosaur. His close friend, BOB WIGGS will also lecture and celebrate with him.
The sharks, (one appeared to be 6 to 8 feet) off the pier will again be a key
attraction even if they are not much of a deterrent to swimmers.
Demodex contagious?
Here is a Demodex in dogs situation that seems to be contagious as presented
by a member of the Vetderm listserv.
The case: I know that demodex is not supposed to be contagious from dog to dog, but here is my problem. I have a puppy shop owner who is getting excellent quality dogs from different sources and 40-50% of the puppies are breaking with demodex. Her own personal adult dogs have now been breaking with demodex. The puppies are going home healthy and then go back to board at the puppy shop's home and break with demodex within a short period of time. All of the dogs are diagnosed by skin scrape and the dogs are showing symptomatic signs that are being scraped (ie. I know this is a normal inhabitant of the skin). All the known animals that tested positive were identified by our clinic by skin scrapings.
From Steve Young: Interesting case! There are actually 3 types of demodex mites which can inhabit the canine skin and hair follicles. The "normal" D.canis is about 40x250um,and the female is about 40x300um, lives in hair follicles and rarely sebaceous glands, They live on cells, sebum and epidermal debris. The "short-tailed" variety, which measures about 90-148um, is about 1/3 the size of D.canis. The long-bodied variant, 334-368um in length, is found in hair follicles, although the two variant mites only live in the surface keratin, which would make them easier to get at and kill. .... I would be more apt to treat these dogs with lime sulfur which is also anti-pruritic.. Steve
from another mentor: Steve gave a great complete answer, but I do have to disagree with him on one or two counts. The short-bodied canine mite is very likely contagious if we compare it to other Demodex mites of its types in other species. Admittedly this is not known for sure for the dog one, but multiple cases in one household have been reported. As for standard D canis, it IS possible for it to be contagious if dogs are housed very closely and one has a very serious infestation with lots of mites on board. This would not likely explain the situation you are describing, but I suppose it could if some of the dogs are loaded with mites and all are stressed and are housed in crowded conditions, none of which seems to be the case.
Ed note: Responses from colleagues indicate that, like all rules, it seems
there are some exceptions when it comes to Demodex being contagious.
"What are your favorite ear cleansing agents"
Otology Roundtable, Comp CE, 24, 3(A), 2002
Rod Rosychuk: ..As a mild cleansing agent with apparently superior germicidal
effects to acetic acid, we also use a 2% acetic acid/2% boric acid cleanser
(DermaPet). This product appears to work well for ears complicated by Malassezia
colonization/infection, and we use it for chronic maintenance regimens (i.e.,
once or twice weekly flushing) in allergic patients prone to Malassezia infections.

The SHELF LIFE of the TrizEDTA is 3 years. This is an incredibly stable product, especially when the source of the product is in the crystalline state and USP quality. Refrigeration is unnecessary. After application, once reaching body temp, it irreversibly neutralizes the catalase enzyme that causes tissue degradation. Do NOT use any amount of alcohol with it.

are enthusiastic about offering special amenities and benefits such as a pet
sitting or walking service, treats and toys, a dog bed, pillows and sheets for
the dog bed, a pet room-service menu, food and water dishes, or other extras.
