DentAcetic Wipe Usage

The following letter is about our DentAcetic pads by an internationally known board certified dentist. It is followed by my observations of meetings in Nice and Granada. We are also quite pleased with the release and acceptance of our EicosaDerm, the highest potency omega 3 fatty acid on the market.

I've had the pleasure to use DentAcetic Wipes (DermaPet Inc.) in my practice for the past twelve months as a home care product to help control plaque. Overall the client and patient acceptance of the wipes have been positive as well as the apparent control of plaque when used daily.

My clients like the smell and ease of use. They appreciate that their pets enjoy the taste and smell, as well. I still believe that daily tooth brushing is the best way to control plaque, but for whatever reason most clients cannot get the tooth brushing process down so they do nothing and the patient suffers. With the DentAcetic Wipes, the overall client/patient experience is pleasant which reinforces compliance. Compliance, of course, is the key to pet dental home care.

In the exam room I remove one of the pads from the container and show the client how easy it is to use in a circular rubbing fashion on the buccal surfaces of the cheek teeth. Then I usually explain that the wipes contain sodium hexametaphosphate (HMP) which decrease the mineralization of plaque to calculus. Acetic Acid is also a sequestering and cleansing agent which decreases topical plaque.

The DentAcetic Wipes have worked well in my practice and I plan to continue to use and recommend the product as part of our home care program.

Yada, Yada, Yada

Travel included August in Australia, September and early October in NICE, FRANCE (for the ESVD) and GRANADA, SPAIN (for the WSAVA). And Jack was in Savannah for the US Vet Dental Meetings!

ESVD, NICE, France

We arrived in time to be greeted by SONJA BETTENAY-MUELLER (Colorado State), who commented that WE get around. We last visited with Sonya about 4 weeks earlier in DARWIN, AUSTRALIA at the ASAVA meeting. Sonja presented a poster on Fatty Acid supplementation that is supportive of the efficacy of Omega 3 Fatty Acids (such as our EicosaDerm) for atopic dermatitis. SUE PATERSON (UK) presented another paper on Ear Diseases where she kindly mentioned our products.

Just like the cruise the AAVD once shared with tattoo artists, it was somehow ironic that there was an adjacent circus to this meeting. The group went to the ancient village of Eze for a Saturday party where all ages mountainclimbed unfriendly stone steps and divided into several restaurants and tables. We sat with EDUARDO TEXEIRA (Madeira,Portugal) who told us he liked to swim in the ocean 4 times weekly; this reminded me of how I am such a wimp that I like the water to be at least 78 and the outside temperature above 90 before I go in. The entertainment was good but not as amusing as RICHARD HALLIWELL who was somehow selected and very willingly gyrated with a flexible belly dancer. Gloria and I enjoyed a wine lunch with KEN KWOCHKA (LA), SOPHIE GILBERT (Belgium) and ROSANNA MARSELLA (Florida) to celebrate Richard's retirement from the faculty at Edinburgh and soften him up for a significant birthday celebration with his wife, JENNY.

I spoke with ALEX COUTINAS (Greece), PETER HILL (UK), DOMINICK HERIPRET (France), PIERRE CARDOT (France), KRISTEN BERGLAND (Sweden), MANDY BURROWS (Australia), CRAIG HARRISON (UK), MARGREET VROOM (Holland) and LUC BECO (Belgium) as well as many others.
Others from the significant USA contingent included PETER IHRKE, THELMA LEE GROSS, MARCY MURPHY (NCS), ANDREW HILLIER (OSU), ROSARIO CERUNDULO (Penn), TONY YU (Oregon) and RUSTY MUSE (CA).

IVENTA, WSAVA, GRANADA, Spain

The first day, we found that the rain in Spain fell mainly on the plane, but also on the passengers, our baggage and cars before clearing into unseasonably warm weather. We also noticed that, at least with Spanish planes, a departure time was only a suggestion before which a plane could not depart. Although the departure times were exceeded by the check in, rental car drop-off and security lines, in the end, we did get where we going. The shopping, although apparently mainly during the 5-7:30 hours due extensive afternoon ciesta's, was wonderful with virtually everything less expensive than anywhere else in Europe (or even Australia). Although the wine in Spain was good and inexpensive it was no match in complexity to that of France.

The International Vet Ear, Nose and Throat Assoc meeting was opened by ANJOP VENKER van HAAGEN (Utrecht) followed by a welcome work from PERE GUITART (Spain). I presented "New approach to Pruritic Otitis" in record time. There was a lot of interest about the TrizEDTA but, at this point, the group is mainly surgeons and my protocols are designed to support them only upon failure. KAROLY KANTAS (Hungary), CHRISTIANA ALFIERI and PAULA SIGNORELLI (Milan, Italy), CELIA COX and ALISDAIR HOLSTON-MOORE (UK) and THOMAS ERIKSEN (Denmark) also presented papers. CHERYL HEDLUND (LSU) presented her new ENT book. We celebrated with dinner and a serious Flamenco dancing show sponsored by STORZ. The group adjourned and promised to meet again next year at the WSAVA in Bangkok.

Hard working JIM DOONAN of Andover was there selling bandages. COLIN BURROWS led the North American Vet Conference crowd and is apparently on the program committee for WSAVA. The Greek meeting was represented by BEN ALBALAS. The booth for the Thai WSAVA meeting in BANGKOK next year was very busy; they showed DermaPet our booth location for next year, which we will share with CENTRAL Pet Products and Dr. KAROON CHAIWONGROJ.

Dental Meeting, Savannah

JACK WHITE and MEREDITH MILLER manned the DermaPet booth since somebody had to go to Europe. JAN BELLOWS, PETER EMILY, BOB WIGGS and others all stopped by for words of encouragement.
