DermaPet Is Pleased To Announce DenTees

DermaPet is pleased to announce DenTees, another new patent pending product to extend our patented DentAcetic line. Almost 38% of all dogs in the U.S. are small dogs. DenTees Stars offer these tiny pets a limited antigen treat which will help their teeth by applying our dental patent (hexametaphosphate and acetic acid), clove, and the latest and best Odofactant as a breath freshener. We use no dye nor fragrance and process DenTees in the most natural way via extrusion. Their shape lends them to work best to physically remove dental plaque while applying ingredients that coat the teeth and prevent future mineralization and bacterial colonization.

The clove taste, smell and function will be a prominent feature much like the peach is to our MalAcetic Otic and Wipe. Clove is a universally pleasant smell associated with dental products for ages. It is therapeutic as a mild analgesic which soothes the gums. It works on breath as a mouth deodorant and neutralizing stomach acids.

DenTees Stars are for the petite dog and cat. They are packaged in 4oz bags, packed 12 bags per box. The DenTees Chew, packed 12 chews/bag, 12 bags/box is for dogs over 6 months. DenTees boxes are POPs, designed to be assembled for display in the veterinary clinic

Please go to our web site to see the DENTEES detail sheet for more information. DermaPet products are sold only to and by veterinarians.

Free Radicals And Hearing

Cause, consequence, and criteria. Evans P, Halliwell B. Int Antioxidant Res Cent, U of London King's Coll. Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, including free radicals, are produced in the human body in both health and disease. In health, they may arise as regulatory mechanisms, intercellular signaling species, or as bacteriocidal agents. Their production is normally controlled by the antioxidant defense mechanisms that include intracellular enzymes--for example, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase--and low molecular-mass compounds such as vitamin E or ascorbic acid.

Although repair mechanisms exist, some steady-state basal oxidative damage occurs in all individuals. Oxidative stress arises when there is a marked imbalance between the production and removal of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. This may originate from an overproduction of these substances or from a depletion in the antioxidant defenses. Certain drugs may induce oxidative stress by forming drug-derived radicals that can not only deplete the antioxidant defenses but can also react directly with biomolecules.

To be able to assess whether oxidative stress is occurring in a particular tissue, reliable biomarkers of oxidative damage are required. Since oxidative stress can damage all major biomolecules in vitro and probably in vivo, biomarkers for DNA, protein, and lipid damage are being developed which, when taken with an assessment of the antioxidant status of the individual, will allow evaluation of the involvement of oxidative stress in the etiology of disease and in the side effects of drugs. There is some evidence to suggest that free radical-mediated damage may be involved in the ototoxicity of aminoglycosides and cisplatin derivatives. Whether this is a cause or consequence of the toxic insult to the sensory hair cells of the inner ear remains to be determined.

Yada, Yada, Yada

There are plans for an industry golf tournament/Derm, Otology, Laser seminar April 9-10,2005 in Palm Desert. Not so coincidental, this is the same weekend of my daughter, Jessica's, marriage. Substantial prizes will be offered. Average golfers can still win since we will have low net, gross and scramble categories over two days. And there is lots to do for non-golfers, as well. If you are potentially interested in participating in this conference, whether a veterinarian or industry member, please reply to this email.

Medrx had a meeting in Irvine on June 6. LOU GOTTHELF, KEITH POULIOT, BILL TOPLIFF and I met for golf on Friday in Palm Desert before and played till the planes took off on Monday. June in the desert was 50 degrees warmer than our Irvine round.

ALAN GARETT, good pal from Corpus Christi, graced the front cover of Veterinary Forum's June issue. Alan has been telling us how he has the lowest average charge per visit and now wrote about a case where he was a good Samaritan, anonymously saving a Siamese cat. He then let it loose with a note. Most old friends and acquaintances have found "alternative" uses for the practical jokester's picture.

Now is the time to join the 3,000 veterinary subscribers to PetCARE Television Network, Inc the educational / marketing monthly video magazine.
