MalAcetic Otic 8 oz/New TMs Arrive
Our flagship product, MalAcetic Otic, is now available in a convenient to
use, economical 8 ounce size. Please look at our OTOLOGY ad on our web site
We had a vet call to tell us about using TrizEDTA for calcifying keratitis.
It is suggested to add an appropriate antibiotic such as gentocin and gas sterilize.
The TrizEDTA will chelate the minerals as well as synergize the antibiotic.
I first heard of this from KIRK GELATT.
EICOSACAPS will be the new name for the OFA Caps Plus EZ-C and garlic. This is our omega 3/6 version very similar to DermCaps except we also have the antioxidants (Vitamins E and C) plus zinc and garlic.

We are proud to announce KlearWax, a potent cerumenolytic, degreasing, dewaxing product containing Dioctyl Sodium Sulfosuccinate (DSS) and Urea Peroxide. DSS emulsifies wax and debris. Urea Peroxide is a foaming agent to break up larger clumps of debris. This product is recommended for in house cleansing to clear away debris enabling better visualization of the otic canal and TM. It is available in a 4 ounce size in an applicator bottle.

We enjoyed weather ranging from hi-90's when we arrived to low 70's on departure
in the Land of Lakes. JACK WHITE, COLIN FERGUSON and YT worked this show along
with new TMs MARK JENSEN (Jack's former top salesman while at DVM) and AL LINGUA.
JACK and YT had lunch with JIMMY NOXON and his lovely wife as well as TIM NUTTAL
(from the other side of the pond). I enjoyed a glass of vino with JEFF WERBER
one evening. GARY GOLDSTEIN and YT swapped stories about our octogenarian moms
who are pals and told me of big plans he has in dental education at the MINNESOTA
vet school. YT was thrilled to lunch with MARTY BECKER and TOM CATANZARO, listening
to them talk about their publishing successes. Marty had just completed a book
signing for his "Chicken Soup" books.
We will be at HERSHEY for the PVMA 8/12-14 and CVC in KC 8/27-29 and FT WORTH
for the TVMA, Sept 22-25.. LOU GOTTHELF and I will be lecturing in BUDAPEST
October 11 and 12. That's right, BUDAPEST.

Feline Ear Mite Video Update
Previously, we viewed a feline ear mite video. It is only fitting to report
findings from numerous vets that MalAcetic HC is finding a niche in feline otology
patients. Reports have varied. Most said they found efficacy in treating Malassezia
otitis (including one chronic one in a geriatric) and that there was better
tolerance than to previous acidifying ear cleansers. We want to point out that
the efficacy of 1% acetic and 1% boric acids on common otic pathogens is not
diminished (see Susceptibility of Selected Otitis Externa Pathogens to Individual
and Mixtures of Acetic and Boric Acids, Benson CE, Proc 14th AAVD/ACVD meeting,
1998 http://www.dermapet.com/articles/art-05.html). MalAcetic HC was designed
for the more sensitive, inflamed, erythematous cases. Original field tests indicated
efficacy in that realm. However, nothing speaks louder than reports from practicing
vets so PLEASE continue to share your success with your colleagues and us.
Also previously, Lou Gotthelf, whose Small Animal Ear Diseases textbook by
Elsevier is one of their Top 5 sellers, has provided us with yet another video
(last month was a MYRINGOTOMY) of a case of ear mites in a cat, which has been
posted on the home page. I believe this is the first
time this common diagnosis has been demonstrated digitally. Let me assure you
that the constant motion and size of these vivid ectoparasites will amaze and
startle the observer. BE PREPARED!!!

I invite you to read all of the above articles at our web site. In particular, note that MalAcetic is 87% and 88% effective against Malassezia and, at .5% MalAcetic is effective against Staphylococcus while at 1% is effective against Pseudomonas. Note: that the 2% strength provided by our MalAcetic Otic and the rest of the MalAcetic line is what you have been relying upon. Now, for those sensitive, inflamed, pruritic or erythematous cases, you can use a gentler product with hydrocortisone.
