DermaBensS fills need 4 BO Benzoyl Peroxide/Sulfur
DermaPet will NEVER send an attachment. Although we are relatively
sure we are not infected right now, realistic experience tells us to err on
the side of caution, so do not open an email from dermapet@aol.com

DermaBensS fills need 4 BO Benzoyl Peroxide/Sulfur
Skip ONE month in over close to 15 years and you find out how many people expect
a monthly newsletter! We just decided to let the 15th Anniversary celebration
last a little longer and skipped August.
We discovered a “mistake” in our Compendium listing for DermaBenSs which contains
2.5% BENZOYL PEROXIDE, 1% SULFUR and 1% Salicylic acids. It is the only benzoyl
peroxide product containing both sulfur and salicylic acids on the market. Demand
for this product has been increasing since a similar product without salicylic
acid went on backorder. For the correct listing go to Compendium Listing.
We are introducing the MalAcetic HC Wipes to market by placing them on the
current quarter special. These wipes are particularly useful to treat skin fold
problems, especially in inflamed areas. The most common of these include breed
predispositions such as bulldogs, most spaniels, Bassett’s, Shar pei as well as
vulvar, facial, eye, chin, lip and tail folds. Cats with eosinophilic
granuloma complex, particularly the eosinophilic ulcer and dogs with “hot spots”
aka ‘pyotraumatic dermatitis’ do well on these since they have both
antimicrobial as well as anti-inflammatory effects.
Reports are in that TrizEDTA Plus is enjoying growing support as a flushing
agent for tracheal washes as well bacterial rhinitis. Experts are adding
1000-1200 mg of aminoglycosides such as amikacin or gentocin to the 4-ounce
bottle before flushing. See Antibiotic-tromethamine-EDTA lavage for the
treatment of bacterial rhinitis in a dog. | Wooley RE Berman AP | Shotts EB Jr |
J Am Vet Med Assoc | 1979 Oct 15 | v. 175 | (8) | p.817-8. Others are using the
same mix as a bladder flush for FUS and other resistant cystitis cases.

AVMA Honolulu
What happened at AVMA will stay in Honolulu…unless I saw it happen. JACK WHITE
and YT actually worked the booth every day. The scene at the meeting was PG
with lots of families. JEFF WERBER (LA) came by with wife and daughter, NAVC
was represented by COLIN BURROWS with help from SHANNON CLYATT. Then there was
the nightlife at Duke’s Canoe Club led by DAN SCOTT and son CHRIS. Classmates
HAROLD ALTERMAN (VA) and RICH CARNEVALE (DC-Rich was showing off his new wife)
seemed to be enjoying themselves as did Maryland neighbor NORM ROSKIN. LOU GOTTHLEF’S
right-hand man, WINSTON PIRTLE (Montgomery, AL) needed convincing to go back
home to work. One evening, on the serene, moonlit beach outside of Duke’s, DAVE
HOWARD (Paralabel) was seen swimming under the stars. When not working, our
neighbors in the adjacent booth (Sonntec), ANGUS and STEFAN SCANLAN, played
while dad, DENNIS rested. GARY LANDSBERG and SUSAN HORWITZ, there for the annual
meeting, led the behaviorists.
INDUSTRY SUMMIT, Portland, Oregon
“A RISING TIDE RAISES ALL SHIPS”
JACK W and YT traveled to Portland for a much-desired invite to a summit of
leaders in the veterinary industry, hosted by a very organized BANFIELD team.
Leaders from virtually every major veterinary pharmaceutical, dog food, distribution,
media and equipment company as well as many veterinary schools attended including
JIM CLEARY (MWI), FRANK MARS (Mars), JOERG OHLE (Bayer), LAWRENCE HEIDER (AAVMC),
JIM NAVE (past pres AVMA), STEVEN CRANE (WVC), BRUCE LITTLE (AVMA), ART ANTIN
(VCA), TOM ZERZAN (Merial), ROBERT DIMARZO (Pfizer) and KEVIN VASQUEZ (Butler),
Adrian Bayley (NA Compendiums) just to name a few. SCOTT CAMPBELL, who coined
the theme of the meeting, “A rising tide raises all ships”, greeted us. JOHN
PAYNE, who challenged the audience to help form a NATIONAL VETERINARY MARKETING
CALENDAR, ably guided the meeting. Excellent studies on client and veterinary
needs and attitudes including the Task Force for the Pet Owner Price Sensitivity
and Attitude Study were reported. HUGH LEWIS, former Dean at Purdue and, more
importantly, my teacher at Penn, displayed DataSavant, which is the largest
data base of veterinary medical records and information in the profession and
Banfield's source for evidence based medical decisions. U.S. SENATOR RON WYDEN
dedicated the progressive, impressive, enormous new Banfield building where
we toured and dined. The next night there was an auction/award banquet where
industry giant Pfizer won this year’s version of the Award for Clinical Advancement,
which DermaPet proudly won last year. The Bruce W. Little Future Vet Scholarship
at Kansas State was funded with a $20,000 scholarship in honor of the outgoing
AVMA Executive VP/Director. Over $300,000 was raised by the Banfield Charitable
Trust to help Pets whose families can't afford preventative care. If you listened
closely, you could hear the deals that will happen in the near future in veterinary
medicine.
Coincidentally, LOU GOTTHELF was lecturing in Portland for MedRx the same weekend
as the Summit. Lou flew in early and YT stayed late to enjoy the delightful
weather for a round of mediocre golf (our best efforts!) and seafood feast at
Jake’s.
Look for our postcard this month from vetdek.com.
We will be at the SWVS in Ft Worth, Sept 21-24 and the ACVC in Atlantic City

Association (CSAVA) annual meeting on October 29 then BEIJING on October 31.

We have never had a bigger, more wide ranging sale. Visit 3rd Quarter Specials for

15 years ago, DermaPet was conceived with what is now DermaLyte Shampoo and
with a spray-on, leave-on conditioner that has now been improved to DermAllay
Conditioner. We started as a hard-working, service oriented company that looked
to use natural products to cure ever-day derm problems and stayed the course.
Private labels supported us for the first 6 years until we became profitable,
mainly from our MalAcetic line. We now have a vast array of products in the
derm, nutraceutical and dental disciplines in multiple labels sold worldwide.
We are known as experts in manufacturing quality products and understanding
vet’s needs from the trenches. CHRIS VON STEIN , our COO, has won two awards
in the last year for Service and Fulfillment; under his leadership we have avoided
all but short back-orders. DAVE BROWN, our CFO, keeps our numbers on track.
Industry veteran, JACK WHITE, VP SALES, has built and operates the sales force,
maintains distributor relations and guides us with his vast industry experience.
Please join us in celebrating our 15th Anniversary this quarter.
While we have just released LIMEPLUS DIP, the industry standard for topical
treatment of dermatophytosis, we continue to do research on our MalAcetic line.
You will find an expanded version of articles on our web site Our most recent
additions are our articles on Dermatophytosis.
Dentees Continues Increase In Market Share
DENTEES continues to show a substantial increase in market share, of late.
We suspect this, in part, may be due to all the press Greenies, who were recently
bought by Mars, is receiving. DENTEES are a softer, gentler, more digestible
version with acetic acid, HMP for the teeth and gum health, and odofactants
for the breath. The term odofactant was coined by PETER EMILY.
MALACETIC Otic AP is a gentler version of MalAcetic Otic. In those rare cases
where a pet may react you can now try MalAcetic AP and/or back off from all
topicals, and/or try a corticosteroid systemically first and/or dilute the MalAcetic
Otic. MALACETIC AP WIPES are now available.
TrizEDTA and TrizEDTA Plus are truly Aqueous products with virtually no propylene
glycol or any other surfactants or preservatives. These are stable (3 year shelf
life) and effective products with decades of R&D proving their efficacy. See
our discussion with WOOLEY in the April 06 newsletter.
We have been advised that the Mandalay Bay and The Hotel in Las Vegas have a
severe room shortage for Sunday, February 18. In fact, there are no rooms available
that night due to the NBA All Star game. My advice is to book your rooms NOW
at the Four Seasons and other nearby hotels while you can get them.

PetCARE TV Network is introducing an updated, inexpensive version of its DVD
for new pet owners, to be included with "new pet" starter kits, titled "Welcome
Home Your New Friend". The objective of the DVD is to educate new pet owners
about the behavioral challenges they will likely face with their new pet and
the importance of "partnering" with their veterinarian. Contact them at info@petcaretv.com .
