TNAVC

As usual, this conference was very organized. There were buses leaving what seemed like every minute for one of the convention hotels and a wide variety of food offered from differing restaurants, making the renting of a car moot.

Almost 15,000 people attended including 5742 veterinarians, 1,723 technicians, 726 practice managers, 675 students, 2,611 family members and guests, 3204 exhibitors, 128 non-D.V.M. registrants and 152 members of the press.

For those of us who came to work, a typical day was breakfast meeting starting from 7 to 8 AM then to the exhibit hall which was open from 930 to 630, lunch meetings, then dinner..then sleep and do it again..of course there were plenty of receptions, the playoff football games and the party people.

Speaking of food and parties, when we went to Christini's…DAN and CHRIS SCOTT's group was at one table, Columbus Serum's gang another and Pfizer's ROBERT DIMARZO and GEORGE FENNELL were entertaining PVP. The next night there was the Banfield reception where SCOTT CAMPBELL, JOHN PAYNE, HUGH LEWIS, ALAN STEWART and others entertained the likes of JIM CLEARY and JIM ROSS (MWI), ADRIAN BAYLEY (Compendium) and other wannados and respect-payers. Then there was the Exhibitor/Speaker/Officials reception, the STYX concert and too many more to count.

Old friends, MARLENE and ANGIE ROMANI (Clippervac) were once again there as was DAVE HOWARD and sister DARLA (Para-Med Labels) who remembered fondly a late night swimming episode in Hawaii at AVMA this summer. CRAIG CAMPBELL of Vedco expressed satisfaction with both his and DermaPet sales growth with Vedco in 2006.

The 3rd Annual OTOLOGY SYMPOSIUM at TNAVC was a resounding success. Before her opening presentation on Malassezia and later Ototoxicty, SUE PATERSON was informed that the entire symposium was selected to be on live TV and re-broadcast later that day and the next morning throughout all the convention hotels. Not to be outdone, CRAIG GRIFFIN, in the clothes he flew here in and lucky he even arrived on time even though his luggage did not, presented Chronic Otitis and Pseudomonas Otitis to an audience that also included most of the attending dermatologists.

LOU GOTTHELF and PAUL BLOOM were two notable derms attending. REID GARFIELD and JOCELYN WELLINGTON were also there. Also noted were DUNBAR GRAM and JOHN MACDONALD.

Besides JACK WHITE and YT, our booth was worked by JAY MAIDEN (SE TM) and up and coming, JEFF SERVE (mid-west TM). SUE PATERSON used the booth as a home and her co-worker from The Rutland House, DUNCAN MIDGELY, came by.

Just like in Groundhog Day, some things never change. VCA's team won the golf tournament AND Da Bears won their playoff game for a 2 day parlay by a pleased STEVE FISHER who must be extra-pleased they will be in the Super Bowl.

There were many people from outside the US. Notably, KAROON CHAIWONGROJ, our distributor in Thailand, VICTOR MALCA and his lovely daughter from Peru, clients and vets from Peru, France, Israel, UK, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Holland, Korea, Japan and Australia. There was a mass of Canadians seeking to escape their bad weather for the 80 plus degree weather in FL.

TECHNICAL BULLETINS are at our web site.

"Mistake" In Our Compendium Listing

We discovered a "mistake" in our Compendium listing for DermaBenSs which contains 2.5% BENZOYL PEROXIDE, 1% SULFUR and 1% Salicylic acids. It is the only benzoyl peroxide product containing both sulfur and salicylic acids on the market. Demand for this product has been increasing since a similar product without salicylic acid went on backorder. For the correct listing go to http://pro.naccvp.com/view.php?prodnum=1459002&u=country&p=msds

MalAcetic HC Wipes are particularly useful to treat skin fold problems, especially in inflamed areas. The most common of these include breed predispositions such as bulldogs, most spaniels, Bassett's, Shar pei as well as vulvar, facial, eye, chin, lip and tail folds. Cats with eosinophilic granuloma complex, particularly the eosinophilic ulcer and dogs with "hot spots" aka 'pyotraumatic dermatitis' do well on these since they have both antimicrobial as well as anti-inflammatory effects.

Reports are in that TrizEDTA Plus is enjoying growing support as a flushing agent for tracheal washes as well bacterial rhinitis. Experts are adding 1000-1200 mg of aminoglycosides such as amikacin or gentocin to the 4-ounce bottle before flushing. See Antibiotic-tromethamine-EDTA lavage for the treatment of bacterial rhinitis in a dog. | Wooley RE Berman AP | Shotts EB Jr | J Am Vet Med Assoc | 1979 Oct 15 | v. 175 | (8) | p.817-8. Others are using the same mix as a bladder flush for FUS and other resistant cystitis cases.
