sure we are not infected right now, realistic experience tells us to err on
the side of caution, so do not open an email from dermapet@aol.com

LimePlus 4 Fel Prur Clin Trial
DEMODEX Gatoi is becoming known as a potential culprit in previously so-called idiopathic pruritus of cats. Since it is the ONLY known acceptable treatment for D gatoi (as well as an acceptable treatment in many other causes of pruritus), lime sulfur (LimePlus Dip, DermaPet)is becoming a component in all feline pruritic clinical trials.
In fact, LimePlus Dip/lime sulfur is also the treatment of choice for Dermatophilus aka "rain rot" in horses as well as many exotic animal disorders including Trixacurus caviae in Guinea pigs.
Vegas
The WVC conference this year was negatively impacted by the NBA All Star Game.
Sunday rooms were impossible to obtain due to the onslaught of what seemed like
a convention of boisterous rappers and hip hop fans. Despite the lower number
of attendees, the show was very organized and seamless.
The booth was ably manned by PATRICK RAYBURN (South Central TM), ALAN GARETT,
JACK WHITE, ROB CONN (SW TM) and BOB MARSHALL (NW TM).
In the "how does he find the time?" category, hard-working and ever growing
influential JOHN PAYNE (BANFIELD) won the well attended WVC golf tournament.
Old pals JOHN HOWARTH and HENRY RANDAZZO (Palm Desert) floated around the exhibits.
Previous co-worker while in practice in Potomac, MD, JEFF SANDS (Heron Bay,Fl)
is now practicing near YT in FL.
TNAVC guru DONNA GINTY was not seen at her beloved slots, but, working the crowd
with COLIN BURROWS and EARL RIPPIE. Earl will be working the COMMONWEALTH Conference
(November 4-8, 2007) in BARBADOS where YT (and LOU GOTTHELF) will be presenting.
Colin is helping to organize the Southern European Veterinary Conference (SEVC),
a joint venture between the Spanish Small Animal Veterinary Association (AVEPA)
and the NAVC. in BARCELONA, October 19-21, 2007. DermaPet will be exhibiting
at both the BARCELONA and BARBADOS Conferences.
LOU GOTTHELF will be presenting at the COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE, November 4-8,
2007. Lou and the Medrx men, DREW MILLER and GLEN TAYLOR looked like pro football
lineman while detailing their wares to vets.
Many well-wishers offered their best to DAN SCOTT who celebrated his 60th birthday.
Both avid pilots, RON WHITFORD visited the booth while GENERAL RICHARD FORD
was seen walking around. CRAIG CAMPBELL (Vedco)came by to say hello and looking
for Jack. Friendly MARTY BECKER (Chicken-Soup for your…) tells me he is starting
to see cases again. Still working and instructing, grooming school instructors,
ANGIE ROMANI and, wife MARLENE, exhibited.
GUY PIDGEON, WVC Asst Exec Director, tells me he is working on our proposed
Otology Conference, but there does not appear to be enough room on the schedule
for 2008.
I had occasion to sit with STEVE WILSON (Hill's ) and financial guru FRITZ WOODS
while visiting Banfield in Portland for one of their educational seminars in
early March. Banfield sponsors an all expense paid trip for each of it's vets
to attend these morale boosting, CE programs.
ANDRIA COKER, our student rep at Oklahoma State, did DermaPet proud. She gave
products to her Alpha Psi fraternity who donated them to a family whose dog
alerted them to a house fire. www.cvhs.okstate.edu/applets/iNP/view.asp?ID=192

The 3rd Annual OTOLOGY SYMPOSIUM at TNAVC was a resounding success. Before her opening presentation on Malassezia and later Ototoxicty, SUE PATERSON was informed that the entire symposium was selected to be on live TV and re-broadcast later that day and the next morning throughout all the convention hotels. Not to be outdone, CRAIG GRIFFIN, in the clothes he flew here in and lucky he even arrived on time even though his luggage did not, presented Chronic Otitis and Pseudomonas Otitis to an audience that also included most of the attending dermatologists.
LOU GOTTHELF and PAUL BLOOM were two notable derms attending. REID GARFIELD and JOCELYN WELLINGTON were also there. Also noted were DUNBAR GRAM and JOHN MACDONALD.
See our TECHNICAL BULLETINS at our web site.
"Mistake" In Our Compendium Listing
We discovered a "mistake" in our Compendium listing for DermaBenSs which contains
2.5% BENZOYL PEROXIDE, 1% SULFUR and 1% Salicylic acids. It is the only benzoyl
peroxide product containing both sulfur and salicylic acids on the market. Demand
for this product has been increasing since a similar product without salicylic
acid went on backorder. For the correct listing go to http://pro.naccvp.com/view.php?prodnum=1459002&u=country&p=msds
MalAcetic HC Wipes are particularly useful to treat skin fold problems, especially
in inflamed areas. The most common of these include breed predispositions such
as bulldogs, most spaniels, Bassett's, Shar pei as well as vulvar, facial, eye,
chin, lip and tail folds. Cats with eosinophilic granuloma complex, particularly
the eosinophilic ulcer and dogs with "hot spots" aka 'pyotraumatic dermatitis'
do well on these since they have both antimicrobial as well as anti-inflammatory
effects.
Reports are in that TrizEDTA Plus is enjoying growing support as a flushing
agent for tracheal washes as well bacterial rhinitis. Experts are adding 1000-1200
mg of aminoglycosides such as amikacin or gentocin to the 4-ounce bottle before
flushing. See Antibiotic-tromethamine-EDTA lavage for the treatment of bacterial
rhinitis in a dog. | Wooley RE Berman AP | Shotts EB Jr | J Am Vet Med Assoc
| 1979 Oct 15 | v. 175 | (8) | p.817-8. Others are using the same mix as a bladder
flush for FUS and other resistant cystitis cases.
