Otic Clarity

Clarification regarding otic cleansing products appears necessary as a result of competition sourced marketing misinformation.

MALACETIC AND TrizEDTA products by DermaPet do not contain ANY alcohol. Some otic products on the market include alcohols as drying agents or to solubilize hydrophobic and/or non-USP ingredients. However, alcohols may result in otic inflammation and nerve damage. Further, there are no evidence-based studies showing alcohol to be an effective antibacterial agent or cleanser in the ear. DermaPet owns the patent on USP (United States Pharmacopeia) approved tris-edta and thus offers only USP Tris and EDTA in either crystal or aqueous forms. Versions containing 0.15% chlorhexidine (TrizPLUS) and 0.15% ketoconazole (TrizULTRA) are also available from DermaPet. There is another product "tainting" our USP only patented formula. The "tainted" product contains non-USP tris and EDTA as well as alcohol, lanolin and nonoxynol. There is also an offshoot of our TrizULTRA, however our DermaPet product contains 50% more ketoconazole.

Additionally, TrizEDTA is a VERSATILE product, aiding in the treatment of respiratory infections, uterine infections *see manual of equine reproduction, and oral bacterial infections (exotics, birds, etc)

MALACETIC is an effective anti-Malassezia agent, as described in evidence-based peer-reviewed papers published by Gotthelf and Young in 1997 and REPEATED by Bassett in 2003 in Australia. While a small percentage (up to 2%) may have a variable and temporary burning sensation as a side effect, it has never been shown to be ototoxic, as have other competitive otic products, which also note anti-Malassezia effects, albeit based on limited studies. MalAcetic is the ONLY product supported by evidence-based medicine to be both a cleanser and have anti-Malassezia effects.

Propylene glycol as an irritant can be a problem in otics if present at levels of >20%. TrizEDTA does not use ANY propylene glycol. Neither does MalAcetic AP which is entirely aqueous with boric and acetic acids. The popular peach fragranced MalAcetic Otic contains only 5% propylene glycol (as a surfactant), which is less than one quarter of what most of the other competitive otic products on the market contain.

MALACETIC Wet Wipes are available now in a convenient, foil packed, resealable, lightweight pouch.

12 OUNCE sizes available now. Our MalAcetic, DermaBenSs, DermAllay and DermaLyte shampoos are now in 12 ounce containers.

MalAKet Shampoo is now in gallons as well as the 8 ounce size.

BOB McCASKILL writes about his dog "Ch Camcrest Bebe Queen of Trouble - aka Bebe - placed Best of Opposite Sex at Westminster. In lieu of going to Cruts, we decided to stay on the campaign train in the US; A wise decision as she took several best of breeds in AZ, KY, and NC and many group placements to include a couple of group 1. She is now number 1 westie. Bebe and others in her kennel and our home are always on DermaPet shampoo's, cleaners, supplements as well as Royal Canin diets. All are westies with hair and great coats."

Previously, we showed how our LIMEPLUS Dip has 29% more lime sulfur than the new LymDip. The new LymDip is a much weaker formula that has not survived the test of time (neither for efficacy or stability). Despite their citing literature, there is not one refereed publication supporting the use of this substantially diluted product. There also is reason to believe that fragrances used in this product (the addition of which required the dilution from a 97.8% like LimePlus to 76.9% in LymDip) will cause contact irritation/dermatitis.
