DermaPet will NEVER send an attachment. Although we are relatively
sure we are not infected right now, realistic experience tells us to err on
the side of caution, so do not open an email from dermapet@aol.com
if there is an attachment.

Nuggets from Denver
In the Roundtable on Otitis Topicals, many members of the panel commented that
MALACETIC OTIC was the product looked upon most favorably as the treatment of
choice for Malassezia otitis. They cited the boric acid as the key ingredient.
Comments regarding the use of miconazole mentioned it to be not as effective
and to have potential ototoxic side effects. For resistant or persistent yeast,
some people were adding ketoconazole to acidifying ear cleansers such as our
MalAcetic otic by dissolving up to 1200 mg in a 4 ounce bottle.
PAPICH was quoted as saying that the fluoroquinolones added to a product containing
Burrow's solution are inactivated and ineffective.
The other tris-edta + keto product in the US was cited by a few to have resulted
in numerous topical irritant reactions. These irritant reactions , probably
due to alcohol, have not been reported to occur with DermaPet's TrizULTRA (+.15%
ketonconazole); TrizEDTA is patent protected, alcohol free and produced with
USP-approved ingredients.
Virtually everyone was using a tris-edta product for gram negative otitis cases
. TrizEDTA gemishes (adding 12 ml of Baytril(R) 100 to a 4 ounce bottle of TrizEDTA
is the most common formula) were considered a more client friendly method of
application than the traditional recommendation, which is to place the TrizEDTA
in first , then wait 15-30 minutes to apply the antibiotic.
WOUND HEALING: PETER WALSH, a surgeon from UC/Davis, described using TrizEDTA
to help wound healing and for burns. I would think our TrizPLUS would possibly
offer a better choice due to the synergism shown between chlorhexidine and tris-edta.
To be sure, alcohol-containing products should be strictly avoided for this
application.
LIME SULFUR: LimePlus Dip was shown to be 98% pure versus the “reformulated”
LymDip at 77% in poster by DIESEL, VERBRUGGE and MORIELLO. All products tested
had equal efficacy making
LIMEPLUS Dip the most economic alternative.
I am sad to report that, RALPH LEE, a giant in the
field of veterinary seminars passed away. Our
condolences go out to his wife, Martha, and son, Howie
who we are sure will carry on the tradition. We will
see them in Myrtle Beach at the SEVC.
San Juan
The PRVMA was most gracious to LOU GOTTHELF and I.
One evening, big Lou, when we decided to look for a
different restaurant, accidentally took the restaurant
door off the hinges on the way out of one reject.
YT won back the Mediocrity Cup convincingly at the
beautiful Dorado Golf Course. Lou, BILL TOPLIFF and I
were hosted by the PVMA and JOSE QUINONES-PORRATA,
brother of MARILUCY QUINONES. MARLON CARRILLO
remembered working with CAROL FOIL and RANDALL THOMAS.
We crashed a Clinton fundraiser at our hotel and had
pictures taken with the charismatic, calm BILL
CLINTON. After meeting him, this staunch fiscal
Republican would vote for Bill C if he ran again.

It SNOWED. So bad they canceled a baseball game in
which LOU GOTTHELF had tickets. So good that the many
people who came to attend the FROZEN FOUR hockey
finals celebrated. It was also good for the
exhibitors since very few ventured far away from the
hotel (which, confusingly, changed names from Adams
Mark to Sheraton while we were there).
ROXY, DermaPet mascot, didn’t seem to mind the snow as
much as her walker did. Attendees, especially
exhibitors (note: CONNIE BELL, BARB VIGNOLA)
especially enjoyed her and commented on how socialized
she is. So social that one evening she disappeared
into the Virbac suite where I am told, like everyone
else there, she was given a drink.
RON KIPNIS came by and shared a couple jokes. This was
JON PLANT’S first derm show with us. We talked with
many derms including PETER IHRKE, THELMA GROSS (who
played a little trick on JACK), ALEX WERNER, KAREN
CAMPBELL, JOHN ANGUS (the dancing machine), ANDREW
MILLS, SHEILA TORRES, CAROL FOIL, GENE NESBITT (who we
heard was in Baltimore at CVC the following week),
DOUG DEBOER, COLEEN MENDELSON (who we hope enjoyed
Passover in Israel), RANDALL THOMAS, DIANE LEWIS,
CHERYL SKOLNICK (whose husband YT finally met), SOPHIE
GILBERT (who truly dances like no one is watching),
RICHARD HALLIWELL (and wife, JENNY) and LINDA
MESSINGER to name a few.
There was much interest in our new allergy extracts
and the household mold test. Currently, we are only
offering this and allergy testing only to members of
the AAVD and internationally.
